From 5 – 16 July, local artist Saran Manolescue will be taking over the Norman Plastow Gallery, 26 Lingfield Road, to present her exhibition entitled ‘Wimbledon En Plein Air’, 20 original oil paintings of the glorious and prestigious SW19.
Focusing on the village and green spaces of the common, Sarah has worked directly from her subject, ‘en plein air’, for the past two years, painting Wimbledon exclusively.
‘Wimbledon has been my home for 15 years’, says Sarah. ‘I know the area like the back of my hand, but I always find beauty here; every season, every weather. I wanted to capture Wimbledon as I see it, its timeless quality.’
A former studio painter, Sarah decided to give the process of en plein air a try a few years ago. ‘The first time I was hooked – I can’t imagine painting any other way now,’ she reflects.
‘There is an immediacy to plein air painting; the challenge to capture a transient scene. It’s hard work but so rewarding.’
Sarah has produced 20 oil paintings, all of which will be for sale (unless reserved), priced between £650 and £2000. Entry is free. Opening times can be found on her website.
