There are people out there who would try and tell you that a drink like whisky should only ever be drunk on its own… and that to mix it with other things is to ruin it.
But imagine how boring life would be if we listened to these kinds of people! What if we never tried experimenting or mixing stuff together?
We’d have fish without chips for a start. Apple pie without ice cream. Pizza without beer! (Although I do admit I’d still ban pizza with pineapple…)
Thankfully, the people at 601 Queen’s Rd are a little more adventurous and they’ve come up with some delicious mixes to satisfy even the most conservative of palates for the next big #LadyWEvent: The Wimbledon Cocktails & Dreams Party.
Here’s a little taster for you:
Mint Julep
What you need: 2 mint sprigs, 10ml simple syrup, 50ml Bulleit Bourbon, crushed ice
Method: Muddle lightly mint and sugar; add bourbon and ice, stir, top with ice and garnish with mint
Glass: Silver julep cup
The Apple Sour
What you need: 35ml J&B, 15ml The Somerset Pomona, 25ml aquafaba (chickpea water), 20ml simple syrup, 20ml fresh lemon, 1 quarter fresh green apple, cubed ice
Method: Muddle fresh apple and sugar syrup and add other ingredients, wet shake, dry shake. Strain and garnish with fresh apple
Glass: Cut rocks glass
Rhubarb Negroni
What you need: 25ml Campari, 25ml Chase Rhubarb and Bramley apple gin, 25ml Cocchi Americano, cubed ice, zest ora
Method: Build, stir, zest an orange over the glass, finish with two poached rhubarb
