It started with steak.

Lady Wimbledon interviews Richard & Sue Hollway; Founders of Roxie’s Steak.

14 years ago, they made a pact to leave their city jobs and follow their joint dream.

“We’re meat lovers – so when we discovered how hard it was to find delicious, affordable steaks in the places we wanted to eat, our passion found a purpose. We created a restaurant that sources and serves the most incredible steaks, in a setting that feels close to home.

Today, we’ve grown into a tight team of local neighbourhood favourites. Each Roxie shares the same meat manifesto – “quality that satisfies the meat aficionados at prices that make everyone smile.“

Having binned their reliable investment banking jobs, they were simultaneously terrified and exhilarated, and can clearly remember the feeling of *knowing* that they were in for a crazy ride, but also being so amped to see what they could achieve.

“The first months were chaotic and fun and draining and exciting all at the same time. Then the next few years were full of growth and confidence, until Covid reminded us that we never know what’s around the corner. But we are here, and strong, and as determined as we were on day 1.”


Sue recently reflected on three incredible things that merged together to create who they are today:

“1. Our loyal, warm guests – so many of whom have been visiting us from the beginning. The reason we do what we do.
2. My unbeatable team – this tribe of fun, caring, diverse heroes, whose resilience and determination astound me. Often. 
3. Richard – officially my co-founder and husband, but unofficially the whole reason we are still here. Putting everything before himself & basing almost every business decision on the impact it would have on our team’s happiness, he set up the culture of love and togetherness within Roxie. My voice of reason through the difficult times, and the absolute best person to celebrate with at the joyous times. Still can’t quite believe we did it!”


Each Roxie restaurant has a special character built from the people and the space. It’s a chemistry that we work hard to create, because everything tastes better surrounded by fabulous friends and familiar atmosphere. Roxie is a favourite with locals in Wimbledon, Putney and Earlsfield where their three branches have become well-loved on the high streets.’

Roxie’s unpretentious menu is focussed around their incredible steaks – They have all the classics; ribeye, sirloin, rump and of course the fillet that they are convinced is the best value fillet in London!

They’ve added the Butcher’s Cuts that are now just as popular as the classics. Their Picanha with their secret homemade sweet & smoky spice is a firm favourite, and the newly launched churrasco ribeye, marinated in garlic and fresh herbs for 48 hours, is fast becoming a best-seller.

“Our steaks are primarily from Argentina, Australia & Uruguay and are from a mix of grain and grass-fed cattle, but our main goal is to source the best quality and value combination, regardless of where it’s from. We cut our steaks by hand in our central butchery and deliver to all sites daily. All our steaks are aged for a minimum of 21 days”

Aside from their steaks, they have beautifully created non-beef dishes, like their buttery buffalo chicken, their fresh and vibrant Asian salad, halloumi and arancini starters, and their renowned slow-cooked baby-back ribs which fill their sites every Tuesday for Rack Attack – a full rack of ribs and chips for an astounding £14.5. They offer five gorgeous burgers too.

Wines are an enormously important part of their offering. Whether it’s Malbec from Mendoza, Syrah from Swartland or Primitivo from Puglia, they’ve got your favourites covered.

For the Gin connoisseurs they’ve sourced a wonderful selection of craft gins that they’ve married up perfectly with a range of FeverTree tonics.

If you’re the kind of person that likes to start and finish with a beautiful cocktail then you’re in for a treat. From the Camps Bay Cooler to their Sevillian Swinger or the Mango Passion Punch to their famous Espresso Martini, they’ve got stunning cocktails unique to Roxie as well as the timeless classics.

“I adore what I do. Over and above the normal frustrations of running your own independent business, I get to regularly witness that happiness & joy that dining out together brings. Nothing makes me happier than seeing one of my managers warmly greeting a regular guest, the restaurant bursting into song on a guest’s birthday, or the genuine pride and enthusiasm from my team when someone gets promoted internally. I wouldn’t swap it for anything.”
