But how do they work exactly?

Individual eyelash extensions are dipped into a medical grade adhesive and carefully bonded to each natural lash, one at a time, by an expert trained eyelash technician.

Eyelash extensions are very light and comfortable and come in various lengths, thicknesses and curls and sometimes also different colours. Your lash expert will select the best choice of lashes for you depending on the condition of your own natural lash, as well as your final desired look.

How long do they last?

Individual eyelash extensions are semi permanent and can last up to 6-8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle. Every person’s lash growth is somewhat variable and each lash extension will fall out together with your natural lash at the end phase of its growth cycle. Following the after care advice given to you by your lash technician is also vital to having longer lasting lash extensions.

Tip: It is recommended to get a refill every 2-3 weeks to maintain a full look.

How will they look?

Eyelash extensions are done well when they are customised. A good lash stylist will talk to you about why you are getting them done and what look you are going for, whilst also keeping in mind the actual shape of your eye as well as the length and thickness of your natural lashes. There are various options to choose from – a natural look, a full mascara look or an ultra-glam. One may also prefer to focus on fullness rather than length or vice versa.

Why do we love eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are brilliant for people who do not like wearing makeup, sporty people, including swimmers or simply a special occasion. They are also a great choice for brides who want to keep their lashes throughout their honeymoon. However, I would strongly advise to get them done a few weeks before the big day, to make sure the end result is what you want. The final set of lashes would then need to be redone about 2-3 days before the wedding day.

Relax and take a ‘Lash-Nap’

The treatment is relaxing and pain free. A 5-10 minute initial consultation with the lash technician is carried out, followed by the lashes application. You will be lying down comfortably on a couch with your eyes closed continuously for about 2.5 hours if you opt for a full set of lashes. A half set of lashes or refills will take about one hour to complete.

A half set of lashes are an economical alternative to achieve a similarly dramatic effect, applied as filler to thicken natural lashes, or applied outward from the eye for a specialised look.

Tip: A full set of lashes would always give you a more complete finished look.

Will your natural lashes get damaged?
The biggest myth is that lash extensions ruin your own lashes. They do not. If applied correctly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage your natural lashes.

Tip: It is always safer to have your lash technician carry out a 24-hour patch test to avoid unwanted allergic reactions on your eyes.
