Local property developer Paul Capra took the initiative to bring the community together to clean the historic drinking fountain at the top of Wimbledon Hill Road. The fountain was built as a memorial to renowned Victorian surgeon and philanthropist, Joseph Toynbee in 1868 – who campaigned to preserve Wimbledon.
Paul enlisted the help of Geoff Engering, MD of Triton Building Restoration who also finished repairing and cleaning the NatWest building on the corner of the road, which is over 100 years old – the scaffolding has finally been taken down and it’s now noticed and appreciated by locals in SW19.
