After a very mild November, the icy cold winds drifting in this month have come as a bit of a shock. So you’d be forgiven for not having your winter wardrobe ready just yet.

Fear not! Our go-to guide for surviving this season in style will have you wrapped up warm in the chicest way possible.

Outerwear

A key piece for any winter season, coats come in many different varieties. We’ve whittled it down to three of the most coveted trends in outerwear right now.

Many designers were going big with quilted puffer coats or technical ski jackets. The great thing about these oversized pieces is the cosy warmth they provide against the harsh winter elements. Practical as well as contemporary.

However, if big coats aren’t your thing, opt for a sleek patent trench. Great for a rainy day.

Underwear

Corsetry was a big theme amongst the catwalks for Autumn/Winter 16.

A sexy bralet peeking out from under a sharp suit is the perfect evening look. Or layer like Prada for a more covered up approach.

Layers

Layer up in style by paying attention to the details. For Autumn/Winter 16 this means turtle necks under dresses, elongated sleeves and leggings.

Yes, that’s right – leggings. Seen at the respectable house of Celine and last season at Phoebe Philo.

There’s no need to fear wearing a skirt on a frosty day now. Swap your barely-there tights for a warmer pair of leggings. If anyone can change our minds, it’s Celine.

Accessories

Like coats, accessories are a big market. There are plenty of options to choose from but here are three key pieces to get your wardrobe season-appropriate.

From head-to-toe: trooper hat, faux fur stole and chunky boots. Sorted.

Fabrics

What we love most about winter fashion are the gorgeous array of fabrics that glisten and gleam at us from shop windows. Party season calls for sparkling sequins, luxurious velvet and intricate brocade.

In terms of print, go for animal or check for the trendiest options.
