The 25th of January marks Burns Night, the celebration of the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns.
In honour of her Scottish roots and birth name Strachan, Lady Wimbledon held a bloggers breakfast to celebrate the poets birthday. The infamous NC Supper Clubs brought Lalit London’s Executive Chef Arup Dasgupta to her home to start preparing a delightful array of Scotch pancakes for her guests.
We somehow avoided the traditional Burns Supper of haggis and Scotch whiskey, yet ensured we kept the sweetest traditions alive with plenty of tartan, folk music, salmon, heather honey and thistle florals by Brian Kirkby Flowers.
The hungry clan was made up of the Eyes of Lady W bloggers, Nesan of NC Supper Clubs, Celeb FC founder Karin Flower, and Jeeva Naturals. As soon as the pancakes were laid on the table, it was hats off and forks out.
Fluffy pancakes fresh off the stove were enjoyed with exquisite accompaniments ranging from caramelised peaches, fig compote and berries for the sweet tooth, and salmon, avocado and rhubarb yoghurt for the savoury option.
Inspired by the stag outside Wimbledon Station, Beck’s Bake created a tartan-wrapped coffee sponge cake, layered with chocolate buttercream and salted caramel, covered in a rich dark chocolate ganache.
It’s safe to say, our “heart’s in the Highlands” today.
