Random Acts Of Kindness Day

Random Acts Of Kindness Day

Celebrated on February 17th, National Random Acts of Kindness Day has grown in popularity each year. It is celebrated by individuals, groups and organisations, nationwide, to encourage acts of kindness. People everywhere are enjoying doing acts of kindness.

Doing Good Does You Good

Evidence shows that helping others is actually beneficial for your own mental health and wellbeing. It can help reduce stress, improve your emotional wellbeing and even benefit your physical health. Kindness brings a sense of belonging and reduces isolation. Kindness is contagious – it helps others feel good.

Ideas For Random Acts Of Kindness

  1. Give your seat up on the bus or tube.
  2. Pay for a coffee for the person behind you in the queue at the coffee shop.
  3. Volunteer with the Wimbledon Guild. Become a befriender and play a crucial role in overcoming loneliness and helping older people live independently. Other volunteer opportunities include helping out in the café, charity shop, exercise class and gardening.
  4. Smile at the people you see on your weekend walk.
  5. Instead of shopping at one of the big high street shops, spend your money in one of the excellent local charity shops. From homewares to designer clothing, art to board games, you’ll have the choice of pre-loved, good quality and reasonably priced items which by purchasing from a charity shop, your money goes somewhere good.
  6. Gift a book you’ve enjoyed reading to a stranger. Loved books can be given to the Wimbledon Station Bookswap (in the waiting room on platforms 7/8).
  7. Compliment a stranger on their style, or dedication to their work. You’ll feel just as good as they do!
  8. Lend a hand to someone who looks like they’re struggling, such as help someone carry their shopping bags.
  9. Do some baking at the weekend and take it into work for your colleagues. It’ll brighten up your Monday.
  10. Spread the love in Wimbledon. Share your message of love on the British Heart Foundation LOVE sign in Centre Court.
  11. Introduce yourself to your neighbours if you haven’t done so already.
  12. Contact someone who you haven’t talked to in a while who made a difference in your life.
  13. Buy some flowers for a friend as a thoughtful surprise.
  14. Walk someone’s dog for them.
  15. Treat yourself to that one thing you’ve been lusting after for a while now. Be kind to yourself!
