Spring is a teasing beast, isn’t it? The black ice goes away, the daffodils appear and then you hear it’s going to snow again on Sunday.

Take my advice and plan some indoor entertainment this weekend, like the unusually good tribute musical This Is Elvis at the New Wimbledon Theatre. Several things set the show above the run-of-the-mill, including a clever script, great musicianship and 40 hit numbers – but best of all the sensational performance by Steve Michaels as Elvis. Read my review, book now and dance in the aisles. On till Saturday.

A new show opens at Wimbledon Fine Art at noon on Sunday, with a Continental theme. French Connections features work by mainly French artists working in the genres of post-impressionism, expressionism, abstractism and, interestingly, musicalism. Open daily, Church Rd in Wimbledon Village.

If you are a musician, take your instrument down to the old HSBC bank premises to the side of the council building in Morden on Sunday afternoon for the Lil Percussion jam session of jazz standards. From 4-6pm, instrumentalists go free, audience £5 each, booking not necessary.

Create messages of welcome for refugees arriving in Britain at an art workshop for adults and children, on Friday afternoons 4-5.30pm at the Sound Lounge pop up venue, opposite Wimbledon piazza. March 16 and 23. Free, but book a ticket here.
