Following the success of last year’s Great Wimbledon Dog Walk, ‘Walking for Paws’ is back Saturday 14th April. London’s pampered pooches (and their two-legged friends) will pack to The Hand in Hand – UK’s Dog Friendliest Pub – to begin the walk.
This is a community event that last year raised over £3000 for the Blue Cross pet charity. This year, the event will be opened by Wimbledon Village’s most famous VIP (very important pony), Shetland super star, The Fantastic Mr Fudge.
Wimbledon Brewery will be joining from 12pm to hand out samples of their award winning beer to all those dog walkers who have worked up a thirst, plus there’ll be mobile dog grooming from Wag ‘n’ Go, GM Andrew cooking up a storm on the BBQ, and multi-award winning local artist Katie Bell showcasing her fur-tastic pet portraits.
Participants can choose from a scenic 2.4 or 4.4 mile walk through the beautiful Wimbledon Common. Registration begins at 10am sharp including morning refreshments and an inspirational pup talk from the Blue Cross.
The Great Wimbledon Dog walk commences at 11am and concludes back at The Hand with doggy bags and treats for all.
Registration is £16 per entrant. Anyone interested in registering for this paw-some event should contact Christine at handinhand@youngs.co.uk for a welcome pack and sponsor forms. Early registration is advised to reserve a spot.
The Blue Cross doesn’t receive any government funding so relies entirely on the generosity of people like you. They help 40,000 pets every year, more than 30,000 of those through their veterinary hospitals and clinics including local veterinary hospital, Merton Blue Cross.
On the 22nd April Walking for Paws organiser Christine Blackman will be running her 5th London Marathon, dressed as Daisy the Dog, for the Blue Cross, hoping to exceed last year’s fur-tastic fundraising total of nearly £6300.
The Hand in Hand has recently been crowned Dog Buddy’s London’s Dog Friendliest Pub for a second year in a row.
