Wimbledon warmly welcomes the Merton Arts Festival once again this year as artists unveil their inner musings to the public throughout the Borough of Merton.
The festival, due to take place across two weekends; 15th – 16th and 22nd – 23rd September, will feature nearly 100 artists whose skills range from ceramics, jewellery, glasswork, textiles, painting, sculpture, photography and print. Those who fancy themselves as modern day art connoisseurs will be able to experience their favourite – or newly discovered favourite – artists experimenting in a range of locations from studios, cafes, galleries and at least three local pubs.
Some of the artists who’ll be exhibiting their work this year include Jo Holdsworth Artist, Kerstin Haigh, Jill Sutcliffe, Joseph Hood Primary School, Clover Lee and Tim Norris to mention a few.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy interpretations of this years’ theme – Taking Liberties! – and can expect links to the history of the Borough of Merton, designer William Morris as well as luxury brand Liberty London of whom both were based in Merton Abbey Mills. All of which will be equally distributed across three venues including Wimbledon and Mitcham Libraries as well as Holy Trinity Church Wimbledon.
One of the highlights this weekend includes the ACAVA Cannizaro Studios were eight artists will display their work in a quiet corner of the park, by the pond, making it the perfect detour for those who regularly enjoy walks through the grounds.
A majority of events will be free and you may even find yourself not far from an artist. So why not enjoy the crisp Autumn air this weekend and discover something new.
