This weekend is your last chance to view the wonderful works on display at an exhibition by local artist Sarah Manolescue, who has brought her stunning and affordable oil paintings back to Wimbledon Village this month.
A selection of 43 gorgeous works depicting scenes from the city, country and coast is on show at the Norman Plastow Gallery on Lingfield Road, until Sunday. A prolific plein air painter, Sarah produces her pieces direct from her chosen subject outdoors, working alla prima (Italian for ‘in one session’). The result is an expressive, loose and dynamic painting style that captures the light, mood and atmosphere of the day.
Taking in her travels across the south-east of England, Sarah’s exhibition includes scenes of countryside and coastline – as in the sun-soaked coastal image of Blackshore, above, but in more than a dozen paintings, Sarah’s beloved London features, with its magnificent bridges and snaking Thames, the green space and iconic striped deckchairs of St James’ Park, bustling Southbank and, of course, her original plein air muse, Wimbledon – featured at the top of this blog post.
Sarah will be at the Norman Plastow Gallery with her ‘City, Country, Coast’ exhibition this Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May, from 10am–6pm. The exhibition catalogue is online to browse and buy, and will remain so for a time once the exhibition closes.
