The No.1 Court Celebration

The No.1 Court Celebration in support of the Wimbledon Foundation takes place this Sunday 19th May. Gates will open from 11.30am, with warm-up entertainment commencing at 1.15pm ahead of the main event at 2.00pm.

The event will be a special exhibition of tennis and music, and will test the new No.1 Court roof and air-management system, showcasing live tennis in front of a capacity crowd of more than 12,000. All proceeds will be donated to the Wimbledon Foundation, the official charity of the Club and The Championships, and to charities chosen by the players participating in exhibition matches.

Celebrate: David Lloyd Raynes Park 30th Anniversary

David Lloyd Raynes Park is celebrating its 30-year anniversary on the 18th May with a host of events throughout the day. There will be a ‘studio-athon’ – six hours of group exercise – a kids neon party, two spectacular tennis matches, a family BBQ and cake-cutting with entertainment by a live band, plus special 30-year themed games and giveaways leading up to the day.

See: American Idiot

Selladoor productions presents Green Day’s explosive rock musical, American Idiot, at the New Wimbledon Theatre this weekend. Returning to mark the show’s 10th anniversary, the run coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Grammy Award-winning original album. Starring singer-songwriter Luke Friend (X-Factor), Tom Milner (The Voice, Waterloo Road) and introducing Sam Lavery as Whatsername.

Hidden Harm by Veronica Cook

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, author Veronica Cook will be hosting a talk at Wimbledon Library to talk about her book, Hidden Harm, a biographical account of the difficulties of life growing up with parents who are drug addicts. The story is harrowing and upsetting at times but ultimately incredibly rewarding and an inspiration to others who may find themselves in Veronica’s situation. Veronica is a survivor, her childhood experiences were challenging, but she has come through trauma and heartache with a message for others in drug-taking families. She is reaching out to help others like her.

Featuring cutting-edge garden design, fabulous shopping and plants from every corner of the globe, it’s an unmissable fixture on the social calendar, and it kicks off early next week.

Local gin distillery, Silent Pool, have sponsored a garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The Silent Pool Gin Garden is designed to transport inner-city dwellers to the rural Surrey Hills, using scent and sounds generated by plant technology. The garden introduces an energy-generating soil bed, giving a glimpse into the potential ‘garden of the future’. The garden also ‘sings’ a varied chorus of bird songs recorded in the Surrey Hills – a soundscape controlled and orchestrated by the garden itself and the technology embedded within it.
