It is with a heavy heart that we announce the temporary closure of the Wimbledon Village Farmer’s Market. All are shocked at it having to close and it was very much unexpected.
A private individual has threatened a legal injunction against Merton Council issuing a trading license for the market. Until the matter is resolved they will not be street trading but of course they do intend to return.
The market has become part of village life and serves the local community and supports local businesses and is supported by local business and the Wimbledon Village Business Association.
The Council are hugely supportive of the market but their hands are tied at the moment.
We are desperately sad and disappointed and many small traders and entrepreneurs trying to make ends meet in difficult times are going without. It has a real impact on people’s livelihoods.
Stephen Hammond MP on hearing the news has immediately sprung into action to find a solution.
Thank you Stephen.

Can we ask you to email messages of support and your thoughts on the matter to local Councillor Thomas Barlow at: Thomas.Barlow@merton.gov.uk.
We very much want to return but we need your help!
Thank you in advance.
