This week, I had the pleasure of an extended bank holiday weekend when I found myself enjoying Tuesday lunch with Lady W in the heart of Wimbledon Village.

Right in the thick of our favourite place on earth lies Côté, the typically French style brasserie, with mirrors, hanging lights and traditional wooden tables. The balance of relaxed, informal setting and more high end menu choices means their all day dining can cater to almost any taste.

We were invited down to try out the newest additions to their classic menu. Being a lover of anything duck, I went for the confit duck salad and was pleased to see a generous portion for a starter. Lady Wimbledon chose for the pea and olive tartlet which transpired to be her favourite dish of the day!

For main, she followed with the salmon Côte d’Azur, which which complimented her beautiful orange jumpsuit as much as the puy lentils and olive tapenade. Feeling something different, I tried the mushroom and camembert tart. Perfectly caramelised and crisp, but in hindsight, I prefer my camembert undiluted and served whole.

My meal highlight was the espresso martini crepes. Descendant rich dark chocolate sauce with an extra kick that is totally acceptable past midday on a Tuesday! As always, the company was exceptional, and we whiled away three hours of reminiscing, planning and dreaming together in a cosy setting that transported us to Paris for a moment, without need for the Eurostar.
