The Fire Stables in Wimbledon Village are back after a year away and Wimbledon residents are thrilled. I visited the newly refurbished restaurant and opened with Lady Wimbledon to explore the new menu and see just what has changed.
On a beautiful sunny day the Fire Stables on Church Road looks sophisticated, modern but most of all inviting. There aren’t many places in Wimbledon that come close to the stunning decor that fits good hearty food with a fine dining angle. The book cases, large sofas, open fire, booths, books and knick-knacks that adorn them adds a charming and original feeling that makes you feel very at home and happy to spend a few hours eating, drinking and enjoying the atmosphere with friends and family.
Looking through the menu I was incredibly impressed with the range of food available and I will have to be back to try more from my must taste list. There was a selection of fresh fish and shellfish, a grill including beef and pork, Little Bird Gin cured salmon, IPA beer battered cod and chips, plus they do roast dinners on Sunday and I will definitely be visiting to try them!
Lady W and myself decided to explore the brunch menu (available to 4pm) for our first visit and we chose the crushed avocado, poached free range eggs, roast tomato all served on a bed of San Fransisco sourdough. It was divine. Exactly how it should be.
The bread was fat, crisp on the outside and soft in the centre, the eggs were perfectly runny and there a fantastic amount of perfectly ripe avocado. There was a little vinegar on the top and the mix of the flavours was divine. Perfect even. One of the most simple yet perfectly done combinations of this classic breakfast that I’ve found in Wimbledon Village.
For pudding we chose the spiced parsnip cake, caramelised white chocolate, white chocolate yoghurt and bourbon gel. Although at first parsnip cake sounds odd don’t be fooled. Like carrot cake it was superb and the smell of the spices was a treat for the senses before tasting it.
It is great to see such an incredible restaurant opening in Wimbledon Village and it will be my recommendation to all my friends and to you to visit. The food is delicious, the interiors beautiful and the atmosphere delightful. I see many days, afternoons and evenings spent at the Fire Stables for me and my friends.
