January is possibly the worst month for many things, from your bank balance to the number on the scales. One of the things it is definitely not good for is your skin! We go from a warm central heated house to the freezing cold outdoors to a warm office – and this continues throughout the day, leaving your skin dry and sore. Not to mention the overindulgence of the Christmas period with too much alcohol and unhealthy food choices leaving your skin totally dehydrated.
So how can we turn this around and get back on track for February…
1 ) Start with using a cleansing balm. You want to get rid of the ‘dirt’ but you don’t want to over cleanse and dry your skin out even further, which can happen with harsh cleansers and those containing alcohol. This is why a natural balm like Emma Hardie’s Moringa Cleansing Balm is great, it has a silky smooth formula from plant extracts and vitamin E to balance, refine, and give a daily boost to dull and dry winter skin.
2 ) Add oil to your skincare regime. I love oil! Since starting using oil a couple of years ago I have been totally addicted, it is the number one skin product I could not live without. I noticed a huge difference when I started using oils and i’m sure you will too. Apply at bedtime as this will give it the chance to really soak into your skin allowing it to heal and repair overnight. If your skin is very dry you can apply a small amount before applying your makeup, but go easy as if you apply too much you will look greasy and your makeup may literally slide off! I love Rosehip Oil which has an excellent source of essential fatty acids, these are important for keeping skin smooth and supple.
3 ) Use a face mask once a week. This will be great for two reasons… firstly because using a face mask will hopefully force you to lie still and therefore relax! We are so busy these days that is very rare we take a minute to stop and chill, stress levels are super high and skin hates stress. From spots to fine lines these can all be linked to stress, ever notice how after a holiday your skin feels and looks so much better? This can be why! So take 10 minutes out of your week and really allow yourself to relax, your skin will thank you for it.
Secondly it will give your skin an amazing boost. There are so many masks on the market now, you can choose the one that is right for you at that specific time. REN and Rodial both do a lovely selection.
