Style, Health & Beauty with a Conscience

Posted by Charlotte Broadbent | 26 April 2017 | Community Spirit, Health & Fitness

It’s often the most rewarding part of my Personal Styling job; donating my time to charity while supporting local businesses. Combining exercise, raising money and awareness of good causes, with colour, wellness and style couldn’t be easier when Gina Conway is involved. Her Aveda Wimbledon salon emits a ‘culture of kindness’, providing our local community with hair and beauty with a conscience, really helping people feel good from the inside out.

I stopped by yesterday to help champion their efforts in supporting Earth Month by raising funds for WaterAid through a 4,500 mile ride to India with their in-store static bike initiative ‘Wheels for Water’. Gina and her team have raised an astonishing £25,000 over the last 4 years, their aim being to help poorer communities that lack access to clean water and sanitation. Gina visited India in November 2016 to lead a proactive, on the ground campaign to raise awareness.

To get me in the right frame of mind I chose exercise gear from the latest Sweaty Betty range from the Wimbledon Village store. Ensuring the right fit, style and colour of work out gear is essential to spur you on and to provide ultimate comfort. High waisted leggings are an absolute must, they flatter most shapes and more importantly hold your stomach in (no muffin tops here!!). The correct colour tone for your skin is vital, there’s no reason to look older or make skin look lifeless when working out. Opt for warm blues and corals if you have yellow based skin, or icy, blue-based shades for cooler skin tones. Don’t always select black, it drains your body of energy…instead ‘go bright’; reds and oranges are proven to lift your mood whilst they get absorbed into your hormonal system…red even increases your adrenalin making it the best colour choice to enhance your natural energy.

Kapotasana Bra top, £40.00 and Urdhva Reversible Leggings, £85.00 from Sweaty Betty.

Break the mould, get your colours right, lace up your trainers and make your mark. Visit Gina Conway Wimbledon, hop on your bike and spin away for WaterAid.

Earth Month ends on 30th April.
