A cocktail of expression, individuality and happiness, a smile can say a lot. It improves your mood and can even have a positive affect on those around you too. But having confidence in your smile is something some us struggle with from time to time. So we’ve put together a few useful tips to help you keep your teeth looking healthy and bright.

Tweak your tea or coffee habit

It’s a little known fact that drinks such as tea, coffee and even your favour summer frappuccino can stain your teeth over time. But who wants to give up their favourite beverage? We’ve come up with a more realistic approach which only takes a small change in your daily tea or coffee habit.

Instead of sipping throughout the day, stick to a timetable (drinking during breaks, for example). This way, you can enjoy your kick of caffeine but help reduce discolouration by giving your mouth a quick rinse with water, or if you’re really committed to the cause, giving your teeth a quick brush.

Look out for food dye

We’ve all experienced that bright blue tongue after sucking on a lolly or ice pop. These colourful, sugary foods are designed to look bright and attractive, but they don’t do any favours for our teeth. Try to reduce your intake and protect your teeth from their strong dyes. The same rules also apply to coloured sports drinks. A useful way around this is to drink through a straw – less contact with your teeth means less chance for stains.

Brush after berries

They may be healthy, but blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries can actually stain your teeth – that’s why you’re advised to avoid them straight after getting your teeth whitened. Just give them a quick brush or rinse with water and you’ll be smiling again in no time.

Visit your dentist

We all avoid it, but visits to your dentist every 6 months is the best way to make sure your teeth are in the best condition. Brush and floss regularly and you needn’t be afraid of the dentist chair!

If life is too busy to care, just keep smiling. You can always cheat and get teeth whitening kits in your local chemist or dental clinics such as Aura who specialise in white teeth in two weeks. Cheers to that!
