Max Out Your Maxi

Max Out Your Maxi

Posted by Charlotte Broadbent | 11 October 2017 | Magazine, Style & Beauty

It’s the mega trend coming through this season, particularly if you want to resemble the pinnacle of easy chic… when you want to look like you’ve tried hard, without trying hard at all, and I’m genuinely NOT joking. It’s the ultimate stylist tip, the marvellous maxi, but the trick is in the shape and colour you choose, but it’s not always as easy as it seems.

It’s one of the greatest debates and I frequently find myself squashing objections. Some think it’s not for the ‘petite’, too overdressed for the office and certainly a no-no for weekend wear. BUT the maxi can be ALL of these things to you, and more – it’s an extreme multi-tasker. I say the maxi is the definitive mark of our sartorial day. For summer pair with wedges and feathers in your hair, however Autumn/Winter calls for leather or denim jackets, t-bar flats or white flatforms.

If you’re pear shaped, hourglass or rectangular, best to opt for v-neck with ruffles and a cinched in waist, a decent ankle length finish, as well as elbow or wrist length sleeves. Clear brights for soft yellow skin tones, muted, earthy shades for darker olive skins and select blue tinted/icy shades if you have rosy skin tones. I’ve hand selected my favourite mega maxi’s, so look no further.

Camilla Ridley is my go-to London dress maker, she’s the ultimate Queen of print and pattern. Every dress tells a story. Discover yours.

Ridley Lauren Maxi in black painters meadow silk, £399.

I’m wearing The Lauren Carnival chiffon Maxi with ruffled neckline, 100% silk crepe de chine. Super flattering for hourglass, pear shapes and rectangular bodies. The v-neck elongates, makes the waist appear smaller and the shoulder ruffle gives height and confidence.

Ridely Margot Maxi Coral Camo Silk, £399.

Ruched neckline, uber-comfy elasticated waistband (ideal for supper party attire), with tie at neck. 100% silk crepe de chine. Cuffed sleeves. But the highlight? You can wash this dress on 30 degrees! What’s not to love?

Boho Beach fest in Wimbledon Village always have sumptuous choices handpicked by Sara.

Miss J Blue print Bandada maxi dress, £198.

This embelished, button down maxi with front slit and v-neck is a serious contender for dress of the year.

Yes ladies, the maxi is elegant and will deliver a solution for every occasion; dress her up, dress her down and with a swish you’ll be fashionably floaty for Autumn/Winter.
