Wimbledon’s Elys department store is set to expand into soon-to-be-vacated Ryman.

Stationary store Ryman on Wimbledon Hill Road will soon be closing down to be taken over by Elys.

The department store, which has sat on the corner of Worple Road for over a century, is planning to make space for its new ‘urban beauty’ department. The expansion is also set to include the instalment of a new sign that is hoped to help shape the look of the area.

A full vinyl skin will be applied to the vertical panel of brick that currently sits beside the store front. This will help visually link the proposed new store front to the original, as well as balance the existing vinyl signs at the middle and far end of the store.

Elys has undergone many expansions in the past, including the memorable move after the 1960s warehouse fire that destroyed hundreds of customer goods, and the major refurbishments of 1996 that introduced top end brands to help attract new types of shoppers.
