September is here and for many it means going back to work. Getting back into the swing of things can take a little time and require a bit of re-adjustment. As such, we’ve come up with 5 tips to help you get back to work your way and keep the excitement of entering a new season fresh.
TIP #1 – FIND YOUR RHYTHM
On your first day back to work everything will feel strange at first. Where you were lounging in the sun, or sleeping in during the mornings you’ll now have to start waking up earlier, tackling the daily commute and getting your brain back into ‘work mode’. This is where finding your rhythm can help you get back to work your way.
An easy tip to help you ease your way back into work is to organise your tasks in accordance with your most productive hours of the day. By doing the tasks you feel less inclined to get a start on, out of the way first, you’ll be able to work your way through the rest of your day and the rest of that to-do-list.
TIP #2 – REVAMP
If you’re a freelancer, or happen to be able to work from home every now and then, you may want to look into giving your home office space a revamp. Several studies have found that disorganised work spaces can often lead to added stress, anxiety and a lack of concentration.
Take a little time to sit down with your favourite herbal tea and take a good look at your work space. One great way to re-organise your desk quickly is to separate your office belongings into three piles; keep, donate, recycle. Keep what you actually need, donate or store away what you don’t and recycle the rest.
TIP #3 – DO MORE
While this tip may at first appear counterintuitive just know we have your best interests at heart. Getting back into work mode doesn’t necessarily have to mean giving up on the things that make you happy.
We suggest adapting your favourite summer hobbies to fit around your new routines such as joining a pilates workshop. Our in-house recommendation is The Pilates Clinic based in Wimbledon. So DO MORE of what you love.
TIP #4 – DIGITAL DETOX
Tempus fugit. As cliche as this Latin phrase sounds we are spending more time on our gadgets than ever before. While technological developments allow us to enhance certain aspects of our lives and make other aspects easier we all can benefit from less ‘screen-time’.
Experts say that switching off notifications, even leaving your phone in another room, is one of the best ways to get a good nights sleep. As Autumn grows closer we’d also suggest pinning down a night-time routine to help you unwind from a long day at the office. After all it is Scroll Free September.
TIP #5 – PRIORITISE ‘ME TIME’
Needless to say, prioritising your well-being is the single most important goal you can work on. Taking care of your mental, physical and spiritual well-being will allow you to deal with the change in season, especially, getting back to work after the summer holidays.
Perhaps, take a moment on your lunch-break and jot down things you’d like to start doing again or even something you’d like to give a try. Find what optimises your state of well-being and prioritise it.
Now we’ve given you these 5 tips to get you back into work-mode it’s time to make them yours by adding, swapping or tweaking these tips to suit your lifestyle.
