Wearing white for a summer party? This summery look needs make-up to match: Beauty Editor Asif Isikgun shares his tips for making your make-up work with that Little White Dress…
As Wimbledon fever spreads across the nation, the battles on Centre Court trigger the battle of the wardrobes – what to wear! We’ve all heard of the little black dress – an outfit synonymous with a stylish night out. This iconic look is usually accompanied by glamorous yet elegant make-up, hinging on the sophistication of the classic red lip. But what about the LWD (little white dress) for day-to-night chic? It’s the perfect style solution for a season of tennis, parties, summer events and wedding invitations – here’s the secret of great summer make-up to match your look…
Wearing an outfit with an easy-breezy mood and a sense of lightness and brightness, you need make-up that simply reflect this vibe, with subtle hints of summer. The key is to use pastel shades all over with one impactful pop of colour.
Your event will hopefully be sunny (fingers crossed) but as we are all far too aware, our glorious UK weather has a tendency to do its own thing –so you should prepare for every eventuality. Use a good, natural-looking base such as a BB or CC cream that contains a high SPF.
To create a beautiful glow, a highlighter is essential. Apply a golden-toned powder or cream highlighter to the high points of the face – just above the cheek bone. This will reflect the light and give more dimensions to the skin. For a more youthful complexion, dot a little highlighter onto the tip of the nose, chin and across the centre of the forehead – these are the points of the face that naturally glow when hit by light.
To finish the look, add mascara and finely line the top lash line with a blendable or liquid liner; there is no need for eye shadow, as you can use a small amount of blush or bronzing powder in the crease of the eyes to keep the look very fresh and natural. Add a bright lipstick or vivid gloss to lend the look structure and create a focal point. Don’t be shy of using bright colour on your lips, as the rest of the look is somewhat muted. A subtle application of brow pencil will help frame your face, too, if you like.
Finally, dab a small amount of a coral blush onto the apples of the cheeks to unify the colour distribution and create warmth – you will see your lipstick blend into the finished picture.
Result? A perfectly sophisticated look that can easily go from day to night and works for any occasion. Now you’re Wimbledon ready!
