Top 5 Father’s Day Gifts

Top 5 Father’s Day Gifts

With Father’s Day fast approaching (June 16th – stick it in the diary!), interior designer and home stylist Gemma Fordham brings you a round-up of great gifts for hip and home-loving dads…

Can you believe it’s June already? I’m sure Christmas was just last week! Nonetheless, with June comes a day designated for celebrating a very special guy: Dad. He deserves a little him-time, too, so with that in mind, I’ve sourced some of the very best Father’s Day gifts and home accessories for that hard-to-buy-for man about the house.

1. The Old-School Game

Let’s face it, he really is just a big kid at heart, so what better way to spoil him than to take it right back to the beginning with a vintage game. This beautifully crafted classic chess set comes with a solid wood folding case finished with a veneer playing board, and will look perfect in any lounge. What a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon…

2. The Super-Slick Coffee Machine

Let’s be honest, kids don’t always make things easy! My poor Dad deserves a medal for putting up with me sometimes, that’s for sure. What better way to kick-start the day and prepare him for the day’s ‘challenges’ than with a fresh cup of Joe? I am particularly in love with this retro-feel Smeg coffee machine, which comes in a range of colours to match any kitchen scheme. Counter-top catnip for caffeine addicts.

3.The Smart Key Organiser

Let’s be honest, would you not want to help your dad to keep his keys organised and in one spot, to avoid all the morning fuss?

This will be a perfect gift idea that has multiple functionalities. A smart key organizer will not only keep the key together but also have a number of other functionalities that will come in handy. What a useful and thoughtful gift …

4. The Vintage Film Poster

If the dad in your life is anything like mine, he will be a fan of his films – a real movie buff. If he’s not in his tool shed, I can be sure to find him in his little den or ‘man-cave’ enjoying one of the classics. Check out these fantastic vintage posters, all of which can be found at www.popartuk.com and will look brilliant framed on the wall above the couch. For the perfect frame, head to Oliver Bonas in Centre Court, where there’s a good selection, or go bespoke at Wimbledon Studio Frames.

5. The Portable Record Player

Much as I hate to admit it, my dad does have pretty good taste in music. The soundtrack to my childhood featured Queen, the Beach Boys, ZZ Top… and I’m sure many out there would agree that you still can’t beat the sound of proper vinyl…. Thankfully record players are very much back in vogue, with a wide range of funky, colourful designs to suit any budget. This briefcase-style compact three-speed turntable by Crosley is easy to pack away (ideal for smaller homes), portable, and won’t break the bank.

5. The Hipster House Plant

Nothing quite says ‘I love you’ like flowers… But for those prickly customers who might not appreciate a bunch of roses, or who aren’t blessed with green fingers, consider an on-trend succulent or cactus. Easy to care for, they come in all shapes and sizes, making them the perfect alternative to a traditional bouquet. They look fab on a sideboard or desk, and teamed with a nice brightly coloured pot, they make a charming gift for Father’s Day.
