Friarwood Are Open & Giving Free Wine To Heroes

Tucked away on the corner of Haygarth Place in Wimbledon Village, Friarwood is a boutique fine wine merchant with an extensive selection of wines from around the world.

Founded in 1967 and originally known for their Bordeaux and Burgundy discoveries, Friarwood has now expanded their portfolio to offer wines from all key regions within France, along with other unique finds from Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, USA, Chile, Australia, Argentina, Portugal, Spain and South Africa. Their underground cellar stores more than 15,000 bottles with top mature wines available by the bottle. It is not every day you can pick up a vintage Bordeaux directly from a shop.

At Friarwood, don’t expect to be told what you like; they have implemented a very welcoming and relaxed approach to helping you choose a bottle of wine, whether it is for every-day tipples, special occasion or a gift. Patrice, one of their Retail Managers who has sommelier background, receives daily phone calls from local residents tapping into his expertise to pair their upcoming dinner with something special.

Having opened their Wimbledon Village location in October of 2017, Friarwood have been overwhelmed with the community support during these unprecedented times. Typically, their shop is buzzing with daily tastings and monthly events but like many businesses, they have adjusted their operations in order to protect their staff and customers. Their shops re open daily, with 1 customer allowed at a time, respecting 2m social distancing rule and only accepting card payments. If you prefer to order from the comfort of your home, their website offers free next day delivery within the M25, on orders over £100.
