‘Dons Local Action Group’ Gains Wheels

Dons Local Action Group has wheels and is ready to go! Our fabulous new van has arrived and is brightening up the streets of SW London.

Craig Wellstead, Head of Operations at Dons Local Action Group explains what this means –

“Previously we relied entirely on help from Endeavour Youth Club, Merton Community Transport as well as Rutlish School who all donated either their vans or their time as drivers which we couldn’t have done without since lockdown began. But having our own van is a total game changer. It’s bigger than anything we had before so perfect for our furniture department, and will definitely get noticed with all its yellow and blue hearts!”

Dons Local Action Group has been going for over seven months now and we are here to stay. For so many of our recipients DLAG brings joy in these difficult times. Not just the weekly food box, but also the opportunity to have a friendly chat with our volunteers brings comfort to so many. Among our volunteers there is joy being a part of DLAG. Meeting new people and knowing they are a part of something that is making a big difference in the local community has become an important part of many lives.

“We reckon we gave food to around 100 households today. Really appreciate the support you guys have given us – it’s making a big difference, and it’s a lovely vibe even when people have a long queue. Thanks again. The bulk of our food is from Dons Local Action Group, probably 80-90%. We divide the food up roughly to ensure every household gets a fair share, based on the number of people who live in each household, and everyone today got at least one good bag of mixed fruit and veg, and one bag of eggs and bread/flour/dried goods. Nappies and sanitary products to those who wanted them too! Thanks!” Mark – Fresh Food Bank

We’re so grateful to everyone who’s supported us and donated to help us to buy our own van. Not only does this allow us to continue to keep supporting the community through food, tech and furniture poverty, we can spread our amazing energy everywhere we go.  We need to keep the spirits up and continue to remind everyone we’re here to support the community.
