Breaking into the US Billboard Dance and UK Music Week Commercial Pop Charts with her debut single ‘All About Us,’ this young rising star’s recently collaborated with Kiss FM DJ’s Majestic for a magical remix of her No.2 hit single all about self-love.
Our Celebrity Editor Angela Sara West, @angela_sara_west, chats with hot London artist Allegra about her latest empowering track, her former Wimbledon pro-tennis player mum, and celebrating Valentine’s Day with friends.
Showcasing sincerity since her debut in 2019, Allegra has always kept it real. Excelling in the ever-growing world of dance-pop, her latest release, ‘If Wanna Love Me’, recently reached No.2 in the Music Week Commercial Pop Charts. Following four singles and a multitude of remixes under her musical belt, rising female artist Allegra offers words of love, empowerment, defiance, power and reliability through her catchy melodies coupled with direct lyrics and infectious beats. “It’s all about knowing your worth,” she says of her latest single, which stresses the importance of self-love.
The spirited pop artist, co-managed by Matt Meyers and Chris Herbert (The Spice Girls), sets a positive mood with a feisty anthem of assertiveness, enjoying an empowering, confident vibe. As a joyful declaration of self-worth and independence, her infectious hit is described as a dynamic dance-pop tune that instantly makes life feel brighter, showing the importance of valuing ourselves and never settling for less than what we want or deserve.
Congratulations on your latest accolade, Allegra!
Thank you! Finding out that ‘If You Wanna Love Me’ is No.2 in the Music Week Charts was just so incredible! I had a lot of fun filming the music video, as it gave me a more 70s disco vibe. Everyone has been enjoying the song, and I’ve been getting SO much love from all the DJs!
What inspired you to write such an empowering track?
It’s important to me that every song that I release has an empowering message… I just don’t want to release songs for the sake of It. I work very hard with my team and I make sure that my vision is put out in every project. This particular track is all about self love and not needing someone to make you feel loved, and I just LOVE that message.
How did the Majestic remix come about?
Well, my team approached Majestic with no expectations really, and getting the ‘phone call from him to say that he loves the track and wanted to do a remix was just so unexpected! I remember listening to it on Kiss FM and I was just dancing in my pjs around my kitchen… I’ve uploaded the Remix video on my YouTube (link in my Insta bio @allegraworld) so turn up the volume and get partying!
Your plans for Valentine’s Day this year?
Weirdly enough, whether I had a boyfriend to celebrate Valentine’s Day with or not, I would still love it. If anything, I would want to do the opposite, ha ha! But maybe that’s just me because I’ve never had someone to make Valentine’s plans with.
Last year, I had the best day… I celebrated Valentine’s Day with my best girlfriends. We all dressed up wearing red and had a long three-course dinner at home. The table was decorated with chocolates, roses, hearts etc. It was the best! We even had a red velvet cake which had the words ‘men suck’ on it, ha ha! It was a joke, but we just celebrated ‘us’ and danced the night away…
This year, I want to do something similar with all my girlfriends and make a night of if, celebrating the love we have for one another and just dancing the night away!
You shot your music video in a bowling alley in Guildford, and along with your Surrey links, I hear you also have a strong SW19 connection… What do you love the most about Wimbledon?
I love that everyone dresses up and that the expectation is having strawberries with cream and Champagne. My mother was actually a professional tennis player and played at Wimbledon at a young age. So, I almost feel like I’m experiencing a part of her childhood and the hard work she went through as an athlete.
Sounds great! And after that, what’s next for Allegra?
I definitely want to release a lot more music… maybe an EP. I just moved out of home, into a place with a bunch of girlfriends, so I’m happy to have my own space. I come from a big family home, so it can be a lot sometimes, but at the same time, I haven’t moved far from home. I just want to focus on music and loving my friends, family and myself!
‘If You Wanna Love Me’ is out now on Radikal Records
