Hay fever season brings misery to millions each year. You will be familiar with the symptoms: sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and a throat that feels like it’s got grit in it. The usual way of treating it is with a course of anti-histamines. If however, you would prefer not to take pills, here are 5 natural ways to fight it:

1. Keep your home clean

Hay fever is aggravated by dust, dust mites, pollen and air borne allergens. These can be reduced by regular cleaning using a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter, and washing bed clothes, curtains and washable soft furnishings. This reduces the load and helps alleviate symptoms

2. Saline Nasal Spray

Using a saline nasal spray will keep your nasal passages clear of irritants and allergens. Used several times a day it will reduce inflammation and relieve congestion helping you to breathe more easily

3. Other Natural Remedies

These include drinking nettle tea which helps with inflammation, and local honey which may help build up a tolerance to local pollen

4. Stay Hydrated

Most people underestimate the importance of drinking enough water, especially when experiencing hay fever. Try to drink at least 2 litres / 8 glasses a day to help dilute mucus and reduce congestion. Adding a few slices of lemon or lime will give you an added beneficial boost of vitamin C

5. Limit exposure to allergens

If you can, stay indoors during peak pollen times in the morning and evening. If you are in the car, keep the windows closed and use air conditioning to filter the air.

At Total Body Health, we offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Bioresonance which  are proven and effective ways to reduce inflammation which is the root cause of so may ailments, including hay fever. You don’t have to suffer the discomfort indefinitely. Give us a call and find out how we can help.
