Some people think that the only way to add value to home is doing huge renovations. Finding a reliable method for boosting your credit score, applying for loans, hiring contractors – it’s a huge amount effort and it takes forever.

But there are plenty of small changes you can make that’ll raise your property’s attractiveness in next to no time. So, what are they?

In this article, we’ll share five quick changes that can add value to your home.

  1. Fix small defects

Big problems like damp can put people off buying your home altogether. Yet while small issues aren’t typically dealbreakers, they can mean that you’re offered a lower price. That’s why it’s worth touching up any superficial defects around your property, no matter how insignificant they seem. Pay attention to the following issues:

  • Dirty walls
  • Peeling paint
  • Leaky taps
  • Squeaky doors, floors or stairs
  • Badly fitted flooring
  • Faulty lights
  • Mouldy corners in kitchens and bathrooms

Invest the small amount of time and money needed to fix these defects. It could be well worth your while, especially if your home has more than one.

  1. Upgrade your garden

Have a garden? Then it’s worth spending some time sprucing it up. If it’s at the front, then it plays a big part in your home’s curb appeal. And viewers are likely to pay attention to the garden, even if it’s at the back. So, trim borders, cut back overgrown bushes, clear pathways and add plant pots – or any other quick jobs you can do to make the garden more attractive for cheap.

  1. Tidy up

The power of tidy and clean rooms should never be underestimated. This is especially true in high-traffic rooms of the house like the kitchen or the bathroom, where house viewers are likely to pay the most attention. You should also think about how much furniture you have in each room, as this could take up too much space and make the room feel cluttered.

  1. Re-paint the front door

Surprisingly, your home’s selling value is influenced by the front door. Studies have shown that homes with red front doors tend to sell at a higher price than any other colour. In fact, they could sell for as much as 36% more than the national average – who would’ve thought? Maybe it’s the boldness of the colour that makes a confident statement buyers can’t resist.

  1. Create a driveway

In some parts of the country, having the option to park at the front door comes at a huge premium. This is especially the case in built-up areas such as the city or the suburbs. Do you have the space to increase the amount of parking room directly at the front of your property? It could bring you in a pretty penny if you do.

You don’t need to blow the bank or wait half a year to add value to your home. If you use our quick changes above, you should be able to do it with just a weekend and a little elbow grease.
