For football fans, a tour of a famous stadium can provide an exciting insight into the way that professional teams work, behind the scenes. These places have witnessed history, and they’re beloved by supporters in the same way that the nation’s cathedrals are. The fervour, passion and mystique that surround them is difficult to mistake.

But exactly which stadiums provide the best experience to visitors? There are a number worth visiting in 2025.

Historic Stadiums Worth a Visit

The best football stadiums are about more than cutting-edge facilities and a sparkling trophy room. They’re about history and tradition. While the modern Wembley has only been around for less than two decades, the iconic arch forms a distinctive part of the capital’s landscape, in much the same way as the two towers once did.

Only a minority of Premier League football stadiums can invoke quite the same level of emotion. The most obvious candidates are Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, and Old Trafford, home of Manchester United. While the latter is notoriously leaky, it’s still worth a visit. Serious fans will want to make the journey before the stadium is eventually replaced.

Modern Arenas with Cutting-edge Facilities

Of course, some of the country’s most impressive stadiums have been constructed more recently, to modern standards. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the most recent addition to the top flight. It’s a truly modern facility, and a favoured venue for touring musicians during summer. This is largely thanks to the retractable grass surface. This building is an impressive technical achievement, and it might be of interest to fans of engineering, as well as football.

Family-Friendly Stadium Tours

In many cases, a stadium tour will appeal to families. If you’ve got children with a passion for the sport, then a day out to watch a match can be a life-shaping experience. This goes especially if there are dedicated facilities and seating there to make it easy to accommodate kids. A behind-the-scenes guided tour of a major stadium like Anfield or the Emirates is sure to live long in the memory. You might even pick up a replica Liverpool shirt while you’re in the area.

International Stadiums to Explore Abroad

While England might be the home of football, it’s fair to say that the sport has travelled a long way. There have been amazing teams across Europe and the wider world, and they’ve played in famous stadiums. From the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, to the San Siro in Milan, to the Allianz Arena in Munich – Europe is packed with amazing football stadiums, and they’re all worth touring at least once if you’re truly passionate about the sport.
