On Saturday 8 October, 2016 a special Gig Night is being hosted by Radio X DJ John Kennedy in the Big Tent on Wimbledon Common. After the success of last year’s inaugural Gig Night, Wimbledon BookFest is again giving young musicians, poets and artists from across Merton the chance to perform in a live session. Given that the likes of Mumford & Sons and Bastille hail from Wimbledon and Putney, it’s an exciting chance to see the stars of tomorrow, today!
Maya Lane is one of the young performers you can catch at the Gig Night. She is a talented, local 13 year old singer/songwriter who accompanies herself on guitar and piano, performing a range of original songs and covers. Maya is building a loyal following via social media through music.by.maya on Instagram and YouTube. She was a finalist in Teenstar 2015, a national singing competition and in 2016 has played at a number of gigs including her first Music Festival.
“I am really excited to have been chosen to sing at Gig Night and can’t wait to have the chance to play to a home crowd on my doorstep,” said Maya Lane.
