The Chelsea Flower Show will inspire us next week and make us green with envy. However, if you don’t fancy queuing up for hours and paying a fortune, there are so many lovely gardens around Wimbledon…we don’t have to look very far to find a beautiful world of colours and beauty.

What’s amazing about gardens is, you can create your own world (if you are patient) for dreaming, relaxation and entertaining.

Despite my lack of botanical knowledge, I can compliment the beautiful compositions in this garden. Lines, shapes, colours, harmony and atmosphere.

Needless to say, creating a garden like this takes many years and you spend an unknown amount of hours pointing your nose to the ground. However it’s a great amount of exercise, a priceless practice of mindfulness, and hopefully lots of sunny days enjoying your creation.

I love how it’s a well balanced mix of rigid lines and clean cuts on one side, like a park, and in another zone, more like a midsummer garden by the sea.

Old bricks, steps and urns give it a rustic look. The narrow walkways allow you to wander around and sense every part in particular.

The conservatory gives an extra dimension to both the house and garden. I imagine the flowers look absolutely stunning from the conservatory window in light summer evenings.

The sweet Robin (Red Chest or Bullfinch according to my neighbour) does not blend in with pink and green colours at all, he is more than happy just watching the activities going on.

Garden design and interior design have a lot in common. It’s about grouping together different colours as well as including a natural mix. It’s about various heights and shapes and how to adapt to natural surroundings. The spindly and ‘wild growing’ species add an extra unique dimension.

This garden is definitely a beautiful and calming place to ‘hang out’, I may jump over the fence again…

Hope you feel inspired. I will do my best with my pots, and I’ll have a sneak peek over the fence when looking for something more sophisticated.

Thank you to Kate for letting me into to her garden, snapping photos and enjoying a beautiful afternoon in her wonderful creation.
