Bored of the gym? As Wimbledon Championships are upon us there is no better time to grab your racket and head outside for a spot of tennis.
Luckily for me, my boyfriend is a tennis coach, and an excellent one at that. He knows just how to make learning the game fun and educational.
Here are three tips courtesy of the tennis coach himself to help you shape up your game when you hit the courts:
1. Correct grip – the correct way to hold the racket is as if you’re shaking hands with someone.
2. Follow through – for both your forehand and backhand; go from low to high and remember to always follow through.
3. Footwork is key – keep your feet moving and step into your shot on both your forehand and backhand.
Last but certainly not least, enjoy it! Putting too much pressure on ourselves is the quickest route to quitting something fun. Rather than playing proper tennis games and sets I love to play fun tennis drills and fun games, which help you to brush up your skills without the constant pressure of competition.
Don’t forget the obligatory post tennis treat – strawberries and cream!
