Mirror work is a powerful tool and practice in the personal development world. It’s used to deepen your relationship with yourself and should be part of your self care and self love practice. How does it work?

You look into a mirror and repeat affirmations to yourself, such as ‘I love you’ and ‘I think you’re beautiful’. Many find it awkward and uncomfortable at first, you may feel a bit silly or find it difficult to be so kind to yourself. Perhaps the affirmations feel insincere. However, author and the godmother of the Self Help world, Louise Hay of Hay House, promises that regular practice of saying kind words to yourself in the mirror will dramatically change how you feel about yourself and your life for the better.

We are constantly talking to ourselves in our heads, usually with little awareness of what we are saying. Louise says, ‘Thoughts become things’ and what you are saying to yourself, and what you’re thinking about your life, has a huge impact on how you feel and what you experience, based on the Law of Attraction. The more we affirm ourselves and affirm positive outcomes in our lives the more likely we are to attract those positive outcomes.

What do you think about yourself or about your day first thing in the morning? Can you think something loving about yourself? When you have your shower, can you affirm that this day is going to be successful and fun? Can you look in the bathroom mirror and say, ‘Hey beautiful, I love you!’

It may sound a little out there, but it really works and if you commit to this practice and choose positive thoughts your life will change for the better.
