Scream! Lady Wimbledon’s ghoulishly glamorous annual Halloween party is creeping up on us. Whether you’ve had your outfit planned for weeks in advance or you pull something together at the last minute, style editors Hel and Mel have some spine-chilling inspiration for the Fright Night fancy-dress of your dreams!
1. Famous Fearsome Faces
Pop stars, rock stars, screen sirens and film icons are all great sources of inspiration for this year’s Halloween outfit. Harlequin has been horrendously done to death, so don’t be afraid to get everyone’s blood curdling by going as the psychopathic Joker or the inferno-inflicting Mother of Dragons!
2. Day of the Dead
This is a great DIY option if you have to get your less-than-enthusiastic partner involve, as you can dress up an everyday wardrobe item – such as a little black dress or work suit – with a little make-up or face paints, and a few accessories.
Apply a simple white face and a smokey eye, add a few floral flourishes or patterns with a black eye pencil or red lipliner, and (if you have time to pop into your local party shop) top with a floral headband or a black sombrero. Fiesta!
3. Bone-Chilling Bodycon
With the best intentions in the world, for most of us Halloween creeps around before we’ve had a chance to source all the bits and pieces needed for that amazing outfit. Fear not, online next-day delivery is here to save your day! A simple bodysuit, all-in-one or body-con dress with a Halloween print, paired with a dark lippy, a devilish attitude and a little imagination, and you’re ready to mingle with the monsters!
4. Frugal Felines, Canny Crones and Dark Demons
If the idea of spending money on an outfit you can only wear once a year makes your blood turn cold, then why not shop from your wardrobe? Leopard-print, faux fur and pleather are permanently on trend and a firm fashion favourite for A/W 2019. You’re bound to own something suitable that you can repurpose and accessorise with a few simple hacks: pleather trousers and a poloneck, a long black dress or a dark suit are all great basic outfit-builders. Just add ears, vampire teeth or fake wounds and you’re good to go!
Now there’s no need to let your costume fears keep you up at night, so trick or treat yourself and get that outfit sorted. Then you can go to the party and get your freak on, safe in the knowledge that any demons you meet are a ghoul’s best friend!
All you need now is your favourite posse and your Halloween party tickets…
