A Local Mission to Save Christmas

A Local Mission to Save Christmas

Posted by Eyes of Lady Wimbledon | 4 December 2020 | Charity, Community Spirit

What do these new sightings of Wimbledon Elves and The Dons Local Action Group have in common?

They are both on a mission to save Christmas for all kids in our town.

First up, is the new Christmas elves in town. Have you spotted one?

Apparently, Santa is a bit behind on his present making; he’s been stuck in ‘Elf Isolation’ aka ‘Lapland Lockdown. So Elf Initiative are collecting new, boxed and unwrapped gifts as well as new wrapping paper for local children who’d otherwise miss out!

They are asking us to help them collect as many toys as possible or to donate to the Wimbledon Food Bank Christmas Dinner.

Elf present drop off destinations:

Raynes Park: Babylon76-78

Wimbledon Village Stables:

Saturday 5th December

On the other side of our town and surrounding areas are the Dons Local Action Group. They have just launched their 2020 Christmas Appeal.

In partnership with AFC Wimbledon Foundation, they are raising money to buy Christmas gifts and treats for the children of families they support and also children spending Christmas in our local hospitals.

The funds will be used to purchase a range of gifts and wrapping according to age, including teddies and books for babies, arts and crafts packs for ages 3 to 11, and books for children aged 12 to 16.

‘We are also collecting Christmas crackers and chocolate selection boxes to deliver to recipients in hope to spread that festive cheer. It’s been a tough year for everyone, but a little gift goes a long way. £5 covers the cost to purchase and wrap for one arts and crafts pack, book or teddy for a child. £20 will cover the entire cost of a Christmas box and presents for a family with two children’ says DLAG Mentor Lily McConnell

‘The gifts for children in hospital must be received by the hospital by 9th of December to quarantine in time for Christmas. Please give what you can to help us spread a little extra DLAG cheer to those who need it most in our community”

Email: dlag@afcwimbledonfoundation.org.uk

This December, lets fill their arms with toys and gifts, so they can get busy wrapping presents and preparing delivery to children and families in our town who really deserve a special Christmas.

Warmest,

#LadyWimbledon
