Falling for Fall Trends: Our Top 6 Fall Trends

Falling for Fall Trends: Our Top 6 Fall Trends

Posted by Eyes of Lady Wimbledon | 6 October 2022 | Style & Beauty

Fall is here again, and you know what that means: all the fall/winter lines are premiering on runways all over the world. Fashionistas are emerging from their shorts and sandals cocoons and slipping into something a little warmer with a few more layers to duke it out for a front-row seat to the start of a new season. Ted Baker jackets are being retrieved from storage, boots are being cleaned and re-soled, and new hosiery is being bought and saved for when the cold fronts start rolling in. It’s an exciting time of year if you love fashion and style because there’s so much to see and so many new styles to try out. Naturally, every fall, there are a few styles that stand out head and shoulders above the rest. We’ve taken the liberty of cataloging those into one essential list for your fall shopping experience. Here are our top six fall trends to shop for right now.

The Leather Jacket

While the leather biker jacket has never gone out of style and likely never will, there are a few new leather jacket and coat styles vying for the spotlight this year as well. If you lived through the 90s and 2000s you’ll well remember the leather trench coats that followed in the wake of the first Matrix movie. Well, like all things 90s, they’re back! Blazers had their place in the spotlight as well, appearing in gorgeous dark winter hues from oxblood to classic black. There’s a move away from patent this year and back to a slightly more subtle and traditional leather finish. We want buttery soft and well cut.

The Maxi Dress

Though the maxi dress isn’t a new idea, designers have really taken maxi to the max at stores like Harrods and Niemen Marcus with floor skimming hemlines worthy of Mortcia Adams herself. There’s every kind of dress under the sun; from sister-wife styles with high collars and full sleeves, to cleavage baring cutouts and fine knit numbers that will keep you warm all season long. Choosing a maxi constructed from all natural fabrics means breathability, which up’s the wearability of the dress in terms of layering up for cold and down for warm weather which significantly lowers your cost per wear.

The Waistcoat

What were we saying earlier about 90s trends making a comeback this season? Well, we’re proven right once again with the return of the waistcoat. What we’re seeing on the runways at the moment in collections from designers like Chloe is very tailored, but that’s not the only way to wear the waistcoat trend. Tailored is nice for a date or wedding but try an oversized, loose, knit waistcoat open over your favorite tee or button down for some interest on a casual outing.

The White Tank

A tank top? For fall and winter? Yup, the rumors are true: the classic white tank is back again! We know that showing a tank top for fall and winter might sound a little crazy, but there’s been a huge move towards trans seasonal dressing instead of buying season by season. A white tank can be styled for warm or cold weather, depending on how you choose to layer. A long sleeved stocking top under a tank with a slicked back hairstyle can add a little warm and masculine flair to a look. Layer the tank with classic blue jeans (hello 90s once again!), a trench and a cardigan over the shoulders for a Sunday morning farmers market look.

All Things Black

We know a classic black look will never, ever go out of style, but there’s been a lot of focus on all black everything this year as the fall and winter trends have started to emerge from their hibernation. Michael Kors, Givenchy and Peter Do have all embraced monochrome black to great effect once again. While black may be basic, we aren’t suggesting that you have to wear it in a basic way! Take a leaf out of Altuzzara’s book and add some sparkle to your looks with huge reflecting sequins.

All Things Neon

In stark contrast to the all black looks many edgy designers are currently showing, there are a lot of highlighter bright looks storming the runways as we speak. Gone are the days when winter looks were only available in muted or earth tones for a darker seasonal palette; if you’ve brave enough to splash out on a neon pink or yellow jacket, you’ll be right on trend for the upcoming cold months. Everything from knit ponchos and wraps to broad shouldered blazers and trench coats is now available for you to shop in your favorite highlighter hues.

Wrap Up

These diverse fall trends will pep up last year’s fall and winter wardrobe in anticipation of the colder months setting in. Which one of these are your favorite?
