Coffee is a way of life for some people. The wonderful smells and flavours can be the perfect wakeup call first thing, or the perfect way to break up your day with a little snack.
Trying different drinks as part of a coffee club allows you to discover new pairings with your favourite sweet treats as well as saving you money! Everyone has their favourite, but why not branch out and maybe discover a new one?
Here are five must-try coffee and snack pairings to improve those little moments for yourself.
Cappuccino and croissant
Croissants have long been a favourite snack on the continent, and these buttery, flaky pastries have become a staple in cafes across the UK too.
Cappuccinos are layered drinks, starting with a shot of espresso. Steamed milk is then added to add some creaminess and body to the drink, followed by a dash of milk foam. Typically, the three layers are around the same amount, making the drink well-balanced, creamy and smooth.
This pairs beautifully with a rich, buttery croissant as the creaminess helps to break down the pastry layers and the buttery flavours complement the coffee.
Flat white and chocolate brownie
Chocolate brownies are a classic in the sugary snack world, and for good reason! There is little better than a fudgy and chewy brownie with a slightly crisp outside. This can only be better if you are lucky enough to get a corner piece.
If a chocolate brownie will improve your coffee break, accompany it with a flat white. A flat white is similar to a latte in that it is made of espresso and steamed milk, but it contains less milk, making it slightly more robust.
Iced coffee and granola bar
Even though the UK experiences a fair amount of cold weather, iced coffee hits the sport for a lot of coffee fans. The coldness of the drink combined with the coffee flavour gives you a boost in energy and alertness – perfect for a long day at work.
If you are drinking on the go and fancy a bite to eat then opt for a granola bar. The refreshing nature of the coffee balances out the chewiness of granola bars whilst still letting the flavours shine through.
Latte and muffin
Lattes are comprised of steamed milk and coffee and can be altered by adding flavourings, sweeteners and sugars. A classic smooth latte is the perfect accompaniment for a muffin.
Muffins come in all types of delicious flavours, so you can choose depending on your mood for the day. Lemon and blueberry is a classic pairing, but some would argue that nothing beats double chocolate.
Americano and biscotti
Americanos are diluted espresso shots meaning they have a strong, bold flavour. If you are looking for the perfect treat to enjoy alongside your Americano, why not opt for a biscotti?
This Italian cookie is oblong-shaped and is a hard, crunchy biscuit. The hard texture makes it an ideal biscuit for dunking in your coffee or for nibbling on whilst you sip. Biscotti comes in a myriad of flavours such as pistachio, chocolate and even cherry – there is something for every palate.
