So last week I was lucky enough to be asked to check out DDMIX – Diverse Dance Mix. This dance class was created by Darcey Bussell and Nathan Clarke at the Village School of Dance, in the heart of Wimbledon Village.

This hidden gem is held at The Village Hall on Wednesday evenings and at the Wimbledon Common Golf Club on Thursday mornings.

As a fit chick I have tried many dance classes but I was not sure what to expect…but I couldn’t turn down the chance to dance with Darcey!

The class regulars instantly put me at ease, and then I was welcomed by the teacher, Katherine. The class lasted an hour, which seemed to fly by.

We danced our way through a mixture of music genres, from Bollywood and Footloose to Micheal Jackson (which was my personal favourite). All the moves are broken down and taught by Katherine without music, which meant we got to walk though the steps and weren’t thrown in as soon as the music started.

This class is perfect for both beginners and dance enthusiasts and there were a mixture of ages and abilities in the sessions I attended. The ladies of different age groups all seemed to enjoy different tracks, and there really was something for everyone.

If you are looking for something new this year, and want to shimmy your way into spring this is the perfect class for you.

The Village School of Dance also runs a full timetable of children’s classes, so if you have a future strictly champion at home why not check out their website: thevillageschoolofdance.com.
