HIIT The Christmas Season In Your Best Shape

HIIT The Christmas Season In Your Best Shape

With Christmas fast approaching, there is no better time to start including HIIT training into your weekly routine. Don’t fall off the fitness bandwagon this year and let all of your hard work go before the season has even begun!

What exactly is HIIT you may ask? Well, HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training which consists of short bursts of exercises. Interval Training focuses on getting the heart rate as high as you can then bringing it back down for a short rest period – then up again and down again – again and again until you can’t physically go any longer!

HIIT is about getting uncomfortable and pushing yourself for 30-40 seconds at a time in each exercise. Choose any 4 exercises and perform them for 30 seconds, going as fast as you can whilst maintaining the correct technique followed by a rest period – this could be 20-30 seconds rest. Then move onto the second exercise and perform this one for another 30 seconds followed by 20-30 seconds rest – then onto your 3rd and 4th exercise. Repeat this whole circuit for a number of rounds until you feel like you can’t go any longer!

The benefits of HIIT really are endless. Spiking your heart rate, then bringing it back down will improve your body’s ability to burn fat and boost your metabolism just in time for Christmas and all the indulgences that come with it. Not only that, the best thing about it is you only really need to do it three times a week – beats pounding the pavement when it’s cold outside and spending hours in the gym!

Mix up your weekly routine and ‘HIIT’ the festive season by raising your glass to a fitter and stronger you!
