It’s not called the silly season for no reason – with an abundance of Christmas parties, long lunches and late nights out, it can be really easy to let yourself go throughout the month of December with all the festivities. Stay on top of things this ‘silly season’ by keeping in mind my 4 top tips outlined below;

Move

Put your gym gear on first thing in the morning and get your body moving as soon as you can. The longer you leave it, the less likely it is that you will actually do it. You don’t have to stick to your usual fitness regime to stay fit and healthy either. Try gathering the family together and going for a nice walk outdoors to get some fresh air, go for a bike ride, do a workout at home or book in a class with a friend to keep you motivated.

Don’t Skip Meals

Don’t skip meals or restrict yourself for that matter. Depriving yourself of the things you love and enjoy will only lead to cravings, binges and over-eating. Even if you had a large meal or night out the night before, start the next day on a clean slate and don’t skip breakfast to try and even out the calorie intake – it doesn’t work like that! Eating breakfast will keep you satisfied and less likely to snack later on in the day.

Plan Ahead

Rather than fussing about the foods you don’t want to eat, or worrying about over indulging in the not so healthy options, plan ahead. Cook some nutritious dishes and treats that you and your family can enjoy together – get your family involved in the process too.

Don’t Over Stress It

At the end of the day, we all look forward to the festive season for the weeks leading up to it, it is such a special time of the year and stressing over it isn’t going to do you or your family any good!

If you have a big meal one night, try to have a light lunch the next. Learn to be mindful of what you are consuming and try your best to not give in to every treat that comes your way.

Enjoy your holiday, the quality time with your family and create some long-lasting memories as that is far more important!
